How Skogman Homes Builds Locally — And Why It Matters

At Skogman Homes, “built locally” isn’t just a tagline — it’s part of who we are. From the products we source to the companies we partner with and the people who work on site, we intentionally choose local whenever possible. That approach builds stronger relationships, supports trusted workmanship, and results in homes crafted with care by people who take pride in what they do.

We work with 50+ local contractors, suppliers, and tradespeople to build homes that aren’t just well-constructed, but community-constructed. These long-standing partnerships support Eastern Iowa’s economy while bringing added craftsmanship, reliability, and attention to detail to every home we build.

Here’s a closer look at just a few of the local companies who help shape our homes — and strengthen the communities we serve.

Suburban Lumber Company Suburban Lumber Company

Suburban Lumber Company, is a family-owned company based in Cedar Rapids that has served Eastern Iowa for decades. Suburban doesn’t just supply materials — they deliver them. With a large delivery fleet and deep local roots, their team brings lumber and building products directly to our jobsites throughout the region, helping keep projects on schedule and on budget.

Their commitment to quality, dependability, and flexibility makes them more than a supplier — they’re part of the team that helps our homes come together smoothly from foundation to final touch.

We also partner with Culver’s Lawn & Landscape, a staple in Eastern Iowa landscaping. Started in 1982 by Todd Culver when he was just 12 years old, Culver’s has grown into a full-service landscape design and maintenance company — and a beloved garden center with 14 greenhouses, a large nursery, and a retail gift shop.

Their deep expertise in design, installation, and lawn care helps ensure that the exterior of a Skogman home — from walkways to greenery to outdoor living spaces — is just as thoughtfully crafted as the interior. Working with a company that literally grows plants, shrubs, and trees right here in the region adds a level of authenticity and care that only local sourcing can provide.

One of our key partners is Mainliner Construction, an independently owned framing company led by Michael D’Hooge — a 6th-generation Iowan. Michael hires local tradespeople and sources materials close to each jobsite, and his business is built on honesty, integrity, and a reputation earned through referrals. Whether the project is big or small, his team brings consistent hands-on care and workmanship to every home they frame.

This local first approach — hiring local trades and building with materials sourced nearby — ensures that the backbone of your home’s structure supports not just your family, but the community around you.

Hawkeye ElectricHawkeye Electric

Electrical work is another critical part of building a safe, reliable home, and we partner with Hawkeye Electric to make that happen. Serving Eastern Iowa since 1984, Hawkeye Electric brings more than 40 years of experience to every project — from residential installations to commercial and industrial work.

Their team handles everything from design-build electrical services to advanced systems like fire alarms, low voltage systems, and generator installation, making sure each home is built with safety, performance, and long-term dependability in mind. Having a trusted local electrician on the team means we can ensure high-quality electrical work, responsive service, and peace of mind for homeowners.

A Home That Works for You

When you build a home with Skogman, you’re choosing more than a place to live — you’re choosing a community-driven process that values quality, craftsmanship, and long-standing relationships. Working with suppliers and contractors who live here too means:

  • Stronger relationships — local partners are accountable to the same communities you are a part of
  • Better responsiveness — when issues arise, local teams are nearby and invested
  • More community impact — dollars stay in the regional economy
  • Higher quality and craftsmanship — experienced local trades take pride in the details that make a home last
  • Shared pride of ownership — everyone has a stake in building something great

We’re proud of every home we build and every partnership that helps make it happen — from the framing and electrical work to the materials that arrive on site and the landscaping that brings a yard to life. These local relationships allow us to build homes with care, consistency, and attention to detail at every stage.

Thank you to all the local trades, suppliers, and partners who help bring Skogman Homes to life — and thank you to the families who trust us with their homes.
